The AI Visibility Checklist

Twenty practical checks to get your business recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity. Work through them in order — foundations first.

1. Foundations — be a clear, nameable entity

AI can only recommend a business it understands. Start by making who you are and what you do unmistakable.

  • Your homepage states, in plain language, exactly what you do and who you serve.
  • Your company name, category, and location are consistent everywhere they appear online.
  • You have a Wikipedia, Crunchbase, or authoritative profile that defines your entity.
  • Your founders, key people, and product names are spelled and described consistently.

2. Content — answer the questions buyers ask AI

Models cite the pages that best answer real buyer questions. Cover the questions, not just the keywords.

  • You publish comparison pages (you vs. named alternatives) buyers actually search.
  • You have clear, factual answers to the top buying-intent questions in your category.
  • Your content uses specific, verifiable claims instead of vague marketing language.
  • You maintain an up-to-date FAQ that mirrors how people phrase questions to AI.
  • Pricing, capabilities, and use cases are documented on-site, not hidden in a demo.

3. Citations & authority — earn third-party trust

AI leans on sources it trusts. The more credible places that describe you accurately, the more often you get named.

  • You're mentioned in industry roundups, listicles, and "best of" articles.
  • Independent reviews (G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, etc.) describe you accurately.
  • Reputable publications and niche blogs reference your business or expertise.
  • Your own data, research, or guides get cited by others as a source.

4. Technical — make your data machine-readable

Structured signals help models parse and trust your information.

  • Organization, Product, and FAQ schema are implemented and valid.
  • Your structured data matches the visible content on the page.
  • Key pages are crawlable, fast, and not blocked from AI crawlers.
  • Entity signals (sameAs links to your profiles) connect your brand across the web.
